We asked William, what was it like transitioning from the military?

“Transitioning into the private sector was simple for me. Why? Because the private sector both government and commercial focus that provide solutions to entities like the Department of Defense, Department of State entities, DISA, etc. must use the customer’s vernacular to win business. However, what some folks might have a challenge with are the unique internal wording for applying/providing solutions back to the government that they might need to get use to while at the same time understanding what wording to use with the external customer. For example, the use of Intelligent Compliance, Assessment, and Verification (ICAV) internally to Technica translates to Continuous Monitoring (ConMon) to a government entity. They both mean the same thing but used differently in internal/external customer settings.

Basically, think of all the simple transitions you go through in life like going from grade school to high school and then to college. In every instance you are learning new acronyms/vocabulary/challenges/processes/adaptability/versatility to help you obtain a diploma/degree. Again, for me is no different from going to the military then to government and then to being a contractor facing all the same things just on the other side of the desk.

Therefore, when a person makes a change in jobs/organizations they must remember their life baseline and then be open to learn some new perspectives.
Note: Always remember the only constant in change is change. Hence, a person is always adapting/learning etc. new ways to get the job done.
